(this is intended to be set to music)
CHRISTORY
The holidays have arrived again
from ancient times when people began
to hold a lot of beliefs pagan
and started to fall off the wagon!
Now let's understand the ancients' fate
if each next sunrise happens more late
and endless freezing just lies in wait --
an early sun means "Let's celebrate!"
(refrain)
Times may change everything we believe
but solstice and birthday don't cause a peeve.
Our fates are mingled in all that we weave;
that's why tis better to give than receive!
For partial year we think of one day
when joy bursts forth and hearts are at play,
because of the cure for feeling fey
brought by a babe with something to say!
A birthday like none that's ever been
announced by angels, with three wise men
who carried gifts that were set to pen,
they made a party for ALL to ken!
(repeat refrain)
This babe's so special they moved His birth
toward winter solstice to match its worth
because His tidings of Peace on Earth
brings gladness whereever there's a dearth!
They tell us that Pisces was His sign;
He partying turned water to wine,
and when He invited twelve to dine
He told them they would do just as fine!
(repeat refrain)
A wooden cross didn't end His tale;
His given life's a message at sail.
So while you wait for gifts in the mail,
remember His birth and do not wail!
Nevertheless, a question remains;
a birthday party that has its stains
more pronounced if a memory wanes,
yet guest of honor never complains....
(pace change)
What is our present for Jesus?
Who believes that it must please us?
Dare we think it should appease us?
What if it's not meant to ease us?
What is our present for Jesus?
Might its existence just tease us?
What if we chased and it flees us?
What if it turns and then trees us?
What is our present for Jesus?
Be it so cold as to freeze us?
What if it's something to sieze us?
Has it an urge to squeeze squeeze us?
What is our present for Jesus?
Knowledge is power that frees us!
With wafer and wine on knees us,
a symbolic joining: He's us!
(MAYBE repeat refrain)
(resolution)
Traditions, parties go hand in hand
and this one is especially grand,
because ev'ryone across the land
invited is to sparkle the bland!
A birthday party for Jesus, see
means presents for all, including He,
who said, "To give to the least of ye
is also to have given to Me."
